3M™ Publishes New ANSI/ISEA 121-2018 Dropped Objects Standard White Paper |
|

|
|
Protecting workers takes more than just keeping
them from falling. Their tools also need to be protected when working at heights. For
decades, leading causes of death on construction jobsites in the United States
have been “Falls” and “Struck by Object” according to the
Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
In 2015, the Occupational Health and Safety Administration
(OSHA) recorded 364 deaths from falls (38.8% of the total construction deaths)
and 90 deaths from being struck by objects (9.6% of the total construction
deaths). That’s a total of 454 workers whose lives could have been saved with
the right training and equipment.
And that’s why the International Safety Equipment
Association (ISEA) and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) have
announced that the long anticipated “Dropped Objects Standard” has been
approved. ANSI/ISEA 121-2018, American National Standard for Dropped Object
Prevention Solutions establishes minimum design, performance, and labeling
requirements for product solutions that prevent falling objects and guidelines
for testing that equipment.
The 3M™ Dropped Objects
Standard ANSI/ISEA 121-2018 White Paper examines the importance of this new
standard and what is addressed, including the four individual categories that
have been established to address specific solutions:
- TOOL TETHERS – Lanyards or materials designed to
connect tools to approved anchor points
- TOOL ATTACHMENTS – Attachment points designed to be
field installed onto tools or equipment to provide appropriate connection
points for tethering
- ANCHOR ATTACHMENTS – Attachment points designed to be
field installed on structures, equipment or workers, to provide appropriate
connection points for tethering
- CONTAINERS and BAGS – Devices designed to carry or
transport tools and equipment to and from heights
Click here to download and read this white paper,
and visit www.saftgard.net when you’re ready to consider
purchasing 3M fall protection for tools. From pullaway wristbands, single and
dual holsters, buckets, retractors, D-ring attachments and tethers, Saf-T-Gard
has all the 3M™ DBI-SALA® products you need for compliance with the new Dropped
Objects Standard ANSI/ISEA 121-2018. Call Saf-T-Gard customer service at 1-800-548-GARD

Get a FREE Wall Cabinet When You Purchase a Zoll AED Plus® Package |
|
 |
|
Did you know sudden cardiac
arrest (SCA) claims a life every two minutes or that SCA strikes nearly 326,000
people in the U.S. annually? And SCA can strike anyone at any time.
In fact, SCA claims one life every two minutes, taking more lives each year
than breast cancer, lung cancer or AIDS. However, if the availability of timely
and appropriate care such as CPR or the use of an AED is increased, survival
rates will improve. To further illustrate this point, the average
survival rate of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests each year is 7%. If an AED is
used by a bystander, the rate increases to 38%.
To help
you ensure your facility's 3-5 minute drop-to-shock response time, Zoll is offering a FREE AED Wall Cabinet ($199 value) when you purchase an AED Plus® Package from Saf-T-Gard now through September 30, 2018.
Only Zoll’s AED Plus is
equipped with Real CPR Help® technology, giving the rescuer
real-time feedback on the depth and rate of chest compressions during CPR. The
sensor in the pads lets the AED see each chest compression and guides the
rescuer, with prompts and a real-time bar gauge, to the recommended depth and
rate of compressions. The Zoll AED Plus is available in semi-automatic and
fully-automatic versions, and each package includes a Zoll AED Plus with AED
cover, an adult electrode pad (CPR-D-padz®), (1) sleeve of lithium
123A batteries, medical prescription and a soft carrying case.
Zoll AED Plus features and benefits include the following:
- Novel electrode design delivers a five-year shelf life and fits 99% of the population’s chest anatomy
- Pull-tabs expose the conductive gel on each pad only when it is in direct contact with the skin, limiting the chance of gel contamination
- CPR-D-padz meet applicable ANSI/AAMI/ISO DF-39-1993 requirements and offer clear anatomical placement illustrations as well as a CPR hand positioning landmark and comes complete with a rescue accessory package, including a barrier mask, razor, scissors, disposable gloves and a towelette
- Display screen presents the elapsed time and number of shocks delivered
- Back-lit display screen provides simultaneous text with every audio prompt and a circle of lighted graphical icons that show what to do
The offer for the FREE AED Wall Cabinet includes the following Zoll AED Plus part numbers:
- 8000-00-4000-01 - AED Plus Semi-Automatic Package with Medical Prescription
- 8000-00-4003-01 - AED Plus Semi-Automatic Package with PlusTrac Professional1
- 8000-00-4004-01 - AED Plus Semi-Automatic Package with PlusTrac Professional5

Q&A
|
 |
|
 |
|
Question: What are the requirements for
products like gloves that come in contact with food?
Answer: The Food and Drug Administration of
the U.S. Government has published extensive regulations in 21CFR parts 170-199
identifying acceptable food additives, indirect food additives, and substances
generally recognized as safe. Gloves are considered indirect food
additives and therefore all components must comply with the acceptable food
additives or substances generally recognized as safe.

As I See It |
|

|
|
It is September 2018. This month
started with Labor Day weekend - traditionally the end of summer although
autumn doesn't officially start until September 22. Way back in the last
millennium, school didn’t start until after Labor Day, but most schools have
already started. The first Labor Day holiday was celebrated in 1882. As a
national holiday, we celebrate Labor Day to honor American workers and the
contributions that workers have made to the strength, prosperity, laws and
well-being of the country. Closer to home, we have double reasons to celebrate
and honor Labor Day. First and foremost, it is a reminder to thank all
Saf-T-Gard associates for your dedication, loyalty, teamwork, and commitment to
always doing the best job possible for our customers and therefore for our
company. We’re glad you are here and we appreciate your work. Secondly, Labor
Day reminds us of why we do what we do - to provide safety products and
services for our customers and their workers. Labor Day gives us reason to
pause and reflect on who will be wearing and using the products that we
recommend, sell, service, repair, inspect and test. Every pair of gloves,
respirator, hard hat or other product is designed to protect real people with
real lives and real families and friends to go home to after their work shift.
We strive to keep that in mind as we process orders, inspect, test and
repair products and ship orders. We never lose sight of the fact that the
first P in PPE stands for Personal, because we are Saf-T-Gard International - Bringing
Workers Home Safely Since 1936.
