It is with deep personal sadness that we announce the passing of Saf-T-Gard's Chairman of the Board, Norman Rivkin.
Norman Rivkin, age 95, decorated veteran of WWII (2 Silver Stars and a Purple Heart) and 2nd generation owner of Saf-T-Gard International, originally Latex Glove Company, passed away on February 16, 2014. Latex Glove Company was founded by Norman's parents, Leo and Lillian Rivkin, in 1936 as a manufacturer of rubber-coated industrial gloves. Due to war-time shortages of rubber, the business continued as an industrial glove distributor. For nearly a decade after WWII, Norman owned and operated Booster Glove Company, a leather glove manufacturer in Chicago, before eventually joining his parents in the family business. Norman Rivkin was one of the founders of the National Association of Industrial Glove Distributors, later NIGDA and IGA, and was the first glove distributor inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1989. Norman's son, Richard and grandson, Loren, continue his legacy in the industrial glove and safety industry.
