|
Are you
aware that as little as 2-3% dehydration can result in a 20% decrease in
physical performance levels in temperate climates and up to a 50% decrease in
hot temperatures?
Workers can lose up to two gallons of fluid per day making
them especially vulnerable to the hazards that can cause serious injury and/or
illness.

Fortunately, dehydration-related incidents are 100% preventable. Water alone is not enough to replace the electrolytes that the body needs to combat dehydration.
Sqwincher® provides an optimally-formulated
supply of electrolytes that workers need to stay safe and productive.
Saf-T-Gard
can help keep your industrial athletes at the top of their game by offering SERIOUS SAVINGS on select Sqwincher® products and flavors now through September 30, 2022 in addition to the following two

|
|
In
nearly every industry, workplace safety must be addressed regularly. When
critical safety threats are missed or overlooked, the consequences can be
severe.
Fortunately,
Justrite has a solution – STUD-E™ Survey – 360-Degrees of
Workplace Safety.
The
Justrite STUD-E™ workplace safety survey assists in creating and
maintaining a safe workplace. Preventing accidents in the workplace is much
more than PPE – it starts with recognizing potential risks.
New
Virtual STUD-E™
The
STUD-E™ Workplace Safety Survey is now being offered virtually! Justrite's safety experts
leverage digital tools to virtually join site walkarounds, conduct inspections,
and discuss issues with employees.
How Does
STUD-E™ Work?
Justrite will conduct a complete walk through of your facility and will use their comprehensive
knowledge of standards and regulations to provide a threat assessment and site
vulnerability assessment. This 360-degree survey will help you understand
present and potential safety issues. Justrite will also guide you correcting the
problems through a printed or emailed document available for you to use and
implement as an action plan for preventing future accidents. From policies, to
processes, to products, Justrite knows workplace safety can be cumbersome. That’s why
the STUD-E™ survey serves as an easy way to reiterate any important safety
issues for management to address for preventing accidents in the workplace.
Using Justrite's proprietary, custom-built app designed by safety engineering experts,
STUD-E™ prioritizes critical workplace safety issues while helping to balance
the bottom line. This includes:
- Preventing
compliance violations from OSHA and EPA
- Avoiding
costly fines
- Preventing
workers comp claims

To keep
workers productive, they need to be safe, comfortable, and have the space to do
their job. Here is a list of safety products for point of use even when working
in a facility with many hazards.
1. Safety Cans
Keep only the smallest amounts possible (not more than one day's supply) of
chemicals in the work area. Flammable liquids purchased in large containers
should be re-packed into smaller safety cans. Use portable and approved safety
cans for storing flammable liquids to prevent explosions in the event of a
fire.
2. Safety Cabinets for Small Spaces
Discourage workers from storing excess chemicals on countertops. Employees need
adequate space to perform their duties. When floor space is tight for chemical
storage, use the mini, countertop, and compact cabinets. A workstation with
over 25 gallons of flammable or combustible liquids needs a safety
cabinet.
3. 5S Tool Shadow Boards
A messy workstation can lead to unnecessary accidents. 5S boards are a
visual tool for putting everything where it belongs and keeping the workplace
organized, efficient, and safe. It makes it easier for people to do their jobs
without wasting time or risking injury.
4. Industrial Waste Carts
Decrease the likelihood of accidents and spills by cleaning work surfaces
throughout the day. Make it easy for employees to dispose of waste with
portable waste carts located right next to where the work is happening.
5. Workstation Mats
Keep employees focused on the task, not their physical well-being. Reduce
fatigue caused by standing on a hard surface for long periods with anti-fatigue
workstation mats. NoTrax® matting provides ergonomic support that reduces
injuries and days off work.
Saf-T-Gard
has all the Justrite safety products for the workstation and across the
facility. Click here to shop them online, or call customer
service at 1-800-548-GARD (4273)

Watch the FREE ZOLL Time is of the Essence - Protection from the Leading Causes of Premature Death Webinar ON DEMAND |
|
|
|
Did you know out-of-hospital cardiac arrest
(OHSCA) is responsible for approximately 350,000 deaths in the U.S. annually and
is responsible for twice as many fatalities than all other workplace injuries
combined?
Once people call emergency services for help,
they need the right equipment and confidence to act, to keep the victim alive
for the 7-14 minutes it takes for EMS to arrive. Since severe bleeding can
become fatal in 3-5 minutes and airway complications can cause hypoxic brain
death in as little as six minutes, it is critical that ordinary citizens are
prepared to deal with unexpected medical emergencies while they wait for
professional first responders.
That means having the necessary tools at your
disposal to manage anything from bleeding injuries to cardiac arrest, choking
burns, or even hypothermia. The time after all is of the essence.
Join Spiff Walsh as he walks through how to
be prepared in different emergency situations and some solutions that save
lives in the minutes before EMS arrives.

Question: (from Canada) - We test electrical wire at
3000V AC 60Hz. The tester is capable of putting out 95mA. What is deemed the
maximum safe current at this voltage that an operator can work with safely? Is
there an OSHA or NEC specified max. allowable current? What protective
equipment should a person be wearing (i.e. gloves, apron, etc.).
Answer: First the hazards - Based
on OSHA regulations and NFPA 70E standard the safe voltage is below 50V. Based
on the studies done the following is the effect of current.

Using a stepladder
as a non-self-supporting ladder
29 CFR
1926.1053(b)(4) requires ladders to be used only for the purpose for which they
were designed. Scenario: A stepladder (which is a type of self-supporting
ladder) is used as a non-self-supporting ladder, but the bottom of the ladder
is either "footed" (that is, another person keeps their foot on the
bottom to keep the ladder from slipping) or the ladder is tied off at the
bottom to prevent the bottom from slipping out. Would the use of a stepladder
as described above violate 29 CFR 1926.1053(b)(4)? If so, would such use be a
de minimis violation?
In 29 CFR 1926
Subpart X, 1926.1053(b)(4) states: Ladders shall be used only for the purpose
for which they were designed. [Emphasis added] Thus, using a stepladder as a
non-self-supporting ladder would violate §1926.1053(b)(4) if the ladder were not
designed for that purpose.
Typically, having a
coworker hold the ladder, or using rope to attempt to restrain the ladder at
its base, would not be considered substitutes for this requirement. We note
that, for example, slip-out is not the only hazard that can result from using a
ladder differently than in accordance with its design.
Stepladders are
typically designed so that the rungs are level when the ladder is in the open
and locked position and the ladder is placed on a stable and level surface. Consequently,
it is likely that positioning a stepladder for use as a non-self-supporting
ladder would result in the ladder's rungs being out-of-level, which would
violate 1926.1053(a)(2).

As I See It |
|
|
|
It is June 2022 and parts of our safety and PPE world are
turning upside down. No cause for alarm, but there is a definite cause for
concern. Here is how we see it and what we can do together to ensure a
continuing supply of quality industrial safety products and personal protective
equipment for you and your workers.
Up to the year 1 B.C. (as in Before Covid-19), the supply chain
worked like a well-oiled machine. Manufacturers produced, distributors stocked,
and customers received what they wanted when they wanted. Pricing was
relatively stable as in modest adjustments annually. Then came the pandemic
with shortages of respirators and disposable gloves causing price hikes of 400%
or more. Cities shut down. Ports shut down. The supply chain was on the verge
of collapsing.
With the easing of the pandemic, prices started to revert to
whatever normal was, then headed upwards with inflation. Labor shortages and
other economic factors sucked excess inventory out of the system and lead times
became more stretched.
So, what does all of this have to do with industrial safety? As
your partner in safety for more than 86 years, we need to communicate better for our
mutual benefit. Blanket purchase orders are a great way to commit product for
your future use and lock in pricing for a fixed period of time. Blanket purchase
orders can be for fixed regular deliveries or for a fixed total quantity
subject to release as you need product. Either way it is a win-win! And with
some prices appearing to spiral out of control, maybe it is again time to look
at better quality products incorporating new designs and technology that will
reduce overall costs while improving safety and performance.
The
time is right to face these issues head on. Contact Saf-T-Gard today for a
conversation with an experienced safety specialist. We are Saf-T-Gard International - Bringing Workers Home Safely Since 1936.
Sincerely,
Richard A. Rivkin, Saf-T-Gard CEO and Chairman of the Board
